For almost 30 years, the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP) has provided confidence to patients, government and the pharmacy sector that community pharmacies in Australia provide safe care and operate to consistent quality standards.

Since its introduction in 1997, QCPP has played a critical role in supporting high standards across the sector and remains a strong foundation for accreditation today.

Over this period, the role of community pharmacy has evolved significantly and now plays a central role in Australia’s primary healthcare system. Their role goes far beyond dispensing medicines — pharmacies deliver vaccinations, conduct clinical assessments, provide structured treatment services, manage clinical risk, and support patients with ongoing and preventative health needs.

This evolution has accelerated over the past decade and has fundamentally changed what modern pharmacy practice looks like.
