Tiered Pharmacy Service Assessment

Under QSPP, accreditation is aligned to the highest level of clinical services your pharmacy provides.

This ensures governance and risk controls are proportionate to clinical complexity.

Detailed requirements for each service level are outlined in the User Assessment Guide under Domain 2.

Level 1 – General Pharmacy Practice

Pharmacy services provided under this level are typically protocol based and cover a broad range of medical conditions. Examples of pharmacy services in this category include Dose Administration Aid (DAA) services, staged supply, oral opioid dependence treatment, needle and syringe exchange, and absence from work certificates.

Level 2 – Vaccination and Medicine Administration Services

Pharmacy services provided under this level involve the administration of therapeutic agents and consultation.  These services are protocol-driven and require procedural competence and certification.  Examples include flu vaccination, denosumab and long-acting buprenorphine.

Level 3 – Full Scope of Practice

Pharmacy services provided under this level include screening, diagnosing and treating (including prescribing) certain health conditions.

Level 4 – Complex Compounding

The delivery of complex compounding services requires special competencies, equipment, processes and dedicated facilities. Risk assessments need to be conducted to ensure patient and staff safety, and robust quality assurance protocols need to be implemented to ensure consistency and efficacy of compounded medicines.
